Ingredients

  • ½ C. butter OR margarine, softened
  • ½ C. dark brown sugar
  • 1 egg
  • ¼ C. dark molasses
  • 2 C. all-purpose flour
  • ½ tsp. ground ginger
  • 1 tsp. ground cinnamon
  • ½ tsp. ground nutmeg
  • ½ tsp. baking soda
  • ½ tsp. salt
  • Prepared icings for decorating, optional
  • Colored sprinkles for decorating, optional

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F
  2. Beat butter and sugar in a large bowl until light and creamy.
  3. Beat in the egg until combined.
  4. Beat in molasses.
  5. Combine flour, ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg, baking soda, and salt in separate bowl.
  6. Beat into creamed mixture until just combined.
  7. Form dough into ball.
  8. Roll dough to 1/8-inch thickness.
  9. Cut out shapes.
  10. Bake on ungreased cookie sheet for 10 to 13 minutes or until lightly browned on bottom.
  11. Cool 1 minute on sheet; remove cookies to wire rack to cool completely.
  12. Decorate as desired.
