Zesty Orange and Almond Cinnamon Rolls Recipe

  • Luscious cinnamon rolls with 2 flavors of icing! Who could resist these with a steaming cup of coffee?

Ingredients

Almond Icing

Orange Icing

  • 1 cup sifted powdered sugar
  • 1/2 tsp Pure Vanilla Extract
  • 1 tsp freshly shredded orange peel
  • 1 to 2 tbsp fresh orange juice

Rolls

  • 1 envelope yeast, ADY or traditional
  • 1/4 cup warm water (100 to 110F)
  • 1 cup potato-cooking water
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup mashed potatoes
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tbsp Ground Cinnamon
  • 4 to 4-3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 6 tbsp butter, softened
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2/3 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened

Directions

  1. Stir the yeast into warm water in a large mixing bowl and let stand a few minutes to dissolve.
  2. Add the potato water that has cooled to 100 to 110F, mashed potato, sugar, salt, butter and egg.
  3. Beat well with electric mixer.
  4. Add 2 cups of flour and beat 2 minutes.
  5. Add enough of the remaining flour to make a soft dough.
  6. Turn out onto a lightly floured surface and knead about 8 to 10 minutes, until the dough is smooth and elastic.
  7. Place dough in a large greased bowl, cover and let rise about 45 minutes, or until dough has doubled in bulk.
  8. Punch dough down.
  9. On a lightly floured surface, roll dough into a 14×8-inch rectangle.
  10. Spread dough with softened butter.
  11. Combine sugar and cinnamon and sprinkle over butter.
  12. Roll up from long sides like a jelly roll.
  13. Cut into 12 equal pieces.
  14. Arrange rolls, cut sides up, in two greased 9-inch round pans or one 13 x 9-inch pan.
  15. Cover pan loosely with greased plastic wrap and let rise until doubled in bulk, approximately 30 to 40 minutes.
  16. Bake at 350F for 30 to 40 minutes or until evenly browned.
  17. Remove from oven and cool on wire racks.
  18. Combine powdered sugar, orange peel, vanilla and enough orange juice to make icing of drizzling consistency.
  19. Drizzle over cooled rolls.
  20. Combine powdered sugar, almond extract and enough milk to make icing of drizzling consistency.
  21. Drizzle over orange iced rolls.
