Traditional Apple Cider Recipe

Traditional Apple Cider Recipe

  • A staple for cool fall nights.


  • 2 broken cinnamon, sticks
  • 1/2 tsp Whole Allspice
  • 1/2 tsp Whole Cloves
  • 2 qt apple cider or juice
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • Bourbon, as desired (optional)


  1. Place cinnamon, allspice and cloves in a small piece of cheesecloth.
  2. Heat cider and sugar in a large saucepan with spices over medium-high heat to boiling.
  3. Reduce heat and simmer 15 minutes, covered.
  4. Remove and discard spice bag before serving.
  5. To serve, pour desired amount of bourbon (if desired) in each glass and fill with warm cider.


Cider can be simmered in a slow cooker.
